Get into the Spirit of Christmas!

San Francisco Christmas EventsIt’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Well, maybe not the snow that iconic song is referring to, but with all the lights and decorations going up all over the Bay Area it’s still pretty easy to get into the spirit of Christmas. The holiday season is a magical time all across the country and San Francisco is no exception. There are plenty of events going on this year for all ages so you can bring out the entire family that can put everyone in the mood for Christmas.

Elf the Musical

The movie Elf has become pretty popular as a holiday movie to watch for the whole movie. It’s hilarious and has a great message of family and accepting one another just as they are without trying to change them. This is why it should come as no surprise that it was adapted into a musical stage performance, Elf the Musical. Bring out the whole family for a fantastic story that follows Buddy the orphan after he ends up in Santa’s bag. You and the kids will love watching as he learns about himself while showing everyone around him how to truly experience Christmas. It would take a true Scrooge to leave this show and not feel the spirit of the holidays around you.

The Santaland Diaries

This one man show is just as humorous as it is true. Written by award-winning writer David Sedaris, The Santaland Diaries is all about the day to day experiences of Crumpet the Elf. You’ll laugh until you cry as he regales you with the tales of his time as a Macy’s elf. Get lost in the stories of his dealings with misbehaving youngsters, hateful and bossy parents, and the revolving door of bored Santas during the Christmas season. If you’ve ever wondered what it was like as an elf in the Macy’s Santaland, this is a performance you just can’t miss.

A Christmas Carol

It would be difficult to find anything more synonymous with Christmas than the iconic tale of A Christmas Carol. Head out to the American Conservatory Theater with the whole family to watch the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge as he casts off his “humbug” feelings about Christmas once he’s visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. If you’ve ever found yourself feeling selfish around the holidays, this is the perfect way to remind you just what this holiday is all about.

Fisherman’s Wharf

Fisherman’s Wharf is a great place to take the whole family for a wide variety of holiday events this year.  On December 12th, you can take the kids out to see the Lighted Boat Parade and check out more than 60 boats as they’re decorated in twinkling lights and festive decorations.  Although the Ghirardelli Square Tree was already lit on the 28th of November, you can still come out to see them light the Menorah on December 16th.

Frozen

As if it hasn’t been bad enough listening to your kiddos constant renditions of “Let it Go”, they will promise to be good all year long if you take them to see the movie Frozen just one more time! On December 10th, head over to the West Portal Branch of the San Francisco Public Library from 6:30 to 8:30 so they can get their fill of this great winter movie. Just be prepared to listen to them sing all the songs again and again on the way home!

Make this holiday season all about your family and get out to show them just how great the city of San Francisco can be around Christmas! Give your kids the experiences that will provide them with a lifetime of memories that they’ll be able to share with their own children some day!
