You’ve got a great event planned with an excellent lineup of speakers, education sessions, and product showcases, but how do you get people talking about it? Here are 4 social media tools that can help.

Facebook Live

With more than 1.5 billion users worldwide, Facebook has made a big play in its release of Facebook Live, which lets you live broadcast video to your legions of followers, right from your smart phone. The live-broadcast video technology was already catching on with Periscope, and now with Facebook Live, this capability has a massive potential audience. You can use Facebook Live for broadcasting the opening of shows or events, key moments during speeches, and also to give live updates and interviews from the event floor.

Instant Polls On Facebook and Twitter

A great way to get people to engage with your social media efforts is to post interactive polls to your potential attendees with industry-related questions. It can be something like “what do you think are the most important issues facing the xx industry today?” and then list three short answers with a,b, and c. This makes it easy for followers to give feedback on what subjects they are interested in. Do this before the show in buildup, and then again afterward to get an assessment for what worked best during the event.

Make A Hashtag

This is essential now for any event. Create a hashtag that is simple and easy to remember, and let all of your followers know about it long before the scheduled event. As more content about the event is produced and distributed with the hashtag, it will create a tidy gathering place for your event’s total social media coverage. If your event is yearly, don’t put the year in the hashtag, but create a long-standing hashtag that will amass posts from previous years.

Giveaways and Prizes

By adding a prize incentive for attendees you can keep people plugged-in to event details, and you can even reinforce brand sponsors through clever quiz questions. Use the show hashtag and post a picture of the prize, maybe even a picture of the winner when he or she picks up the gift item. Giveaways and prizes probably work best on Twitter during live shows, but you can do them on Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, and Snapchat as well. The opportunities are really endless on social media, but these suggestions are a good place to start.
