Business Travel 101

business travelDo you have any travel plans for work this month?

If you work in the corporate world, it is becoming more of a standard than just an occasional occurrence.

Things can get hectic when traveling, and it may be difficult staying productive when worrying about travel stresses.

With the stress of dealing with airport security, checking into hotels, and packing everything you need, you may find yourself wondering how you can remain productive throughout.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do to prepare yourself ahead of time to ensure your productivity levels stay at their highest.

Booking the Right Hotel

One of the best ways to stay productive is to book the right hotel. You don’t want to stay in a hotel that doesn’t cater to the business women and men of today.

The biggest concern you should have when selecting a hotel is whether or not they have free Wi-Fi. This should be a standard at most hotels, but unfortunately, it isn’t. So, when calling to reserve your room, make sure they have the ability to keep you connected to work and home. This will allow you to continue working on projects or presentations when you are stuck at the hotel.

Another thing to make sure your hotel has is an actual desk. A lot of people find it easier to stay focused on the task at hand when they have an actual workstation to sit down at. Lying on the bed with your laptop might make it too easy to get distracted with the television, or even fall asleep when you’re supposed to be working.

Oddly enough, a hotel with a gym could also do wonders for your productivity. While you may initially think a gym would take time away from work, they actually have the ability to help you clear your mind after a long day of meetings. This would allow you to wind down enough to prepare any work you may need for the next day.

The right bed is also imperative to productivity, not just on business trips, but at home as well. If you can’t get a good night’s sleep, you may end up worthless the next day. When checking the ratings of potential hotels, be sure to read up on the types of beds they have to offer to make sure they are comfortable enough for you.

Employ a Car Service

The importance of using a car service for your travels cannot be emphasized enough. A car service can take so much stress off your shoulders which, in turn, can allow you to focus more on the work in front of you.

With a car service, you don’t have to waste time waiting on a taxi or other type of public transportation. They are there where you need them at the exact moment you need them, allowing you the ability to work up until the last minute on that all-important presentation.

Given the fact that you will be traveling to many different cities around the country for your job, it would be safe to say you won’t know the area very well. Having a car service at your beck and call will also ensure you never get lost, which also wastes precious time.

A lot of people consider renting a car when they reach their destination. While this is certainly a viable option, there are negatives to consider. The biggest being the one mentioned above: getting lost. With a car service, you have a chauffeur that is familiar with the area, so you never have to worry about arriving late to an important meeting or power lunch. The other benefit of using a car service over renting a car is that you can actually get work done while being driven to your destination.

When it comes to business trips, the importance of using every last minute for work becomes imperative. You don’t have a lot of time to waste, so make the conscious decision to make the right choices to keep your productivity at an all time high.
