Take a Mini Vacation around San Francisco

Bay Area Day TripsNow that the summer is winding down, you may want to consider squeezing in a last minute vacation. San Francisco and the surrounding areas are full of amazing places to visit. Whether it’s just a romantic trip for two, a girls (or boys) weekend out, or a fun filled family vacation, there is sure to be a place for everyone.

Before the seasons change and it’s time to send the kids back to school, check out some of these great day trips to take this weekend around the Bay Area.

Take a Coastal Hike

If you’re the outdoorsy type, round up some friends and head south of San Francisco to Pacifica State Beach. This gorgeous coastal has it all in regards to those that love to spend their time in the great outdoors.

Thanks to the gentle rolling waves, the beach here is ideal for those that want to learn how to surf. On down the beach you’ll find a gorgeous vintage pier that you’ll be able to fish for your dinner off of and right now perch and salmon are both in season. To take that coastal hike you came to the area for, head up to Mori Point. You’ll be blown away by the gorgeous grassy bluffs the trails meander through.

After you’ve worked up an appetite with hiking, fishing, and surfing, and if you aren’t too keen on cooking your own fish, head into town for a delicious meal. Check out Nona’s Kitchen for some home cooked goodness or Ristorante Portofino’s for some old world Italian fare.

Great for History Buffs

If you want to sneak in a history lesson with your kids before they head back to school, take them to Fort Ross. Set high above the Pacific Ocean, this Russian fortress offers up gorgeous views as well as entertainment for the whole family.

You and your family will be able to check out the grounds, including a chapel, barracks, and the armory. If you happen to visit during one of their celebration days, your kids will be awed by the canons when they’re fired off for those special occasions.

There aren’t any restaurants here, so be sure to pack a picnic for everyone to enjoy. There are several different places to have your picnic, though. While the beach is a favorite, if you don’t want sand in your sandwiches you can always settle down at one of the picnic tables under the massive redwood trees.

Visit Wine Country

No visit to California would be complete without a trip through wine country. Sonoma County is the perfect destination for a romantic weekend trip for two. In addition to the many different wineries you can tour, there is also plenty of arts and culture to surround yourself with.

If you want to truly experience everything a winery has to offer, check out one of the few that offer lodging accommodations. Reserve the luxurious Mosaic or Artisan suite at the DeLorimier Winery in Geyserville. Located near the tasting room, you won’t have far to go after you’ve spent the evening sampling their many amazing wines.

There are several fantastic restaurants in the area, but if you want a taste of the countryside, visit one of the restaurants that offer dishes made with locally grown fare. We recommend timing your dinner for sunset at River’s End. You’ll be amazed by the stunning view of the sun setting over both the Russian River and the Pacific Ocean, which makes this a prime location for your romantic dinner.

If you really want to make this weekend trip one that everyone will remember, consider using a Bay Area limo service. You can whisk your family or sweetheart away for a day trip or weekend jaunt without stressing about how you’re going to get there. Let a chauffeur make you and your travel companions feel like VIPs.
