Party Outside the Box
If you are planning on having a get together with friends and family this summer, don’t settle for the same old thing. Get creative! Produce an experience that’ll be memorable enough so that everyone in attendance will always think back and say, “Remember that awesome party from the summer of 2013?” Here are 7 fun ideas for summer parties.
1. Barter Party
This kind of party allows everyone to go home with something new, but no money exchanges hands. Here’s how to throw it.
Invite five or more friends.
Have each friend bring at least five items from their home they no longer want, as long as it is clean and in good condition. Have them tag each item with their name and description of the item.
When each person shows up, they place their five items in the designated area or table. Each guest then receives five clothespins with their initials written on them. It’s best to use a permanent marker. The guests will look at the items up for barter and puts a clothespin on the tag of the ones they would like to bring home.
If more than one person wants a the same item, put the clothespins in a hat and draw one.
If any items are left unwanted, you can return them to the owner or donate them to a local charity.
2. Recipe Exchange Party
Each guest should bring a covered dish with printed or written recipe cards of the dish they brought. As your guests arrive, assign them a number that they will write on the recipe cards. They will place the recipe cards next to the covered dish they belong to. Give each of your guests a small piece of paper to write the number of their favorite dish.
At the end of the party, tally up the votes and announce the winning dish. Have a prize for the winner.
One gift idea that fits the party’s theme is a basket of cooking and baking items. You can also do specific foods like casseroles, cookies, low-calorie dishes, or slow cooker recipes. An appropriate party favor would be a recipe box or something else that holds recipes.
3. Bay Area Party Bus
Make the party mobile and enjoy the Bay Area’s many magnificent sights by hosting your shindig on a Bay Area party bus.
Angel Limo has party buses that hold 27-50 passengers, so this type of party is best for larger groups.
Make sure everyone RSVPs by a certain date because you want to make sure that you choose the party bus with the right passenger capacity. For your safety, we will not load a bus with more passengers than it’s designed for, os having an accurate count of guests will ensure that no one gets left behind. If you aren’t sure, it’s better to book the bigger vehicle to accommodate any last-minute guests.

4. Garden Party Perennial Exchange
If you and your friends are passionate gardeners, this party idea is perfect for you. Have each of your guests bring seedlings from their garden thinning to exchange with the other guests. They should include a picture of the plant, care instructions, and tips.
5. Fashion Show Party
If you like the show Project Runway, you'll love having a party like this!
Come up with a challenge, such as, make a hat out of objects you would find in a garage, or another article of clothing made up of things that can be found in a specific kind of store, such as a home supply store or convenient store.
Once the piece of clothing is made, have your guests model them. Hold a vote on the most creative, most original, and other categories of your choosing. Offer the winners a prize.
This is also a great way to create a new album for Facebook, Instagram, etc. In fact, you can do a “live broadcast” of the fashion show party through your social networks.
6. Red Carpet Event
Who doesn’t love the opportunity to dress fancy? We know that the ladies will love this idea.
Lay out the red carpet or red paper table covering.
Create categories, like best voice, best cook, best dancer, best joke-teller, etc., and give out prizes at the end of the night.
7. Mixed Drink Party
Have your guests bring a recipe and ingredients for their favorite mixed drink.
But instead of just making the drinks and sharing them, put the recipe cards in a hat, create teams among your guests, and randomly assign a drink to the teams to make. You can then have them rotate the recipe cards so that each team ends up making each drink.
Then, assign each team a number, and place a sticker with that number on the bottom of the glass of each drink. Take each type of drink and arrange them with other drinks of the same kind, and then have your guests taste the variations of the recipe they personally brought, and have them pick which one they like best. It’s important that they do not know which drink belongs to which team so that they are not biased.
Needless to say, everyone will be a little tipsy at the end of this party, so make sure your guests get home safely by arranging limo service for them in advance.
