Best Airport Gyms in the World 5 of the Healthiest Airports in the World

Frequent traveling can put a serious dent in your workout schedule. Bad airport food, jet lag and sitting for hours in small spaces, uncomfortable airports and through delayed flights can leave you feeling less than healthy. Even vacations can disrupt the most disciplined and committed among us. Airports have responded, though, by adding gyms and exercise spaces to keep you loose and limber before your long flight. Some airport gyms might even be worth a trip on their own.

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport

While this airport doesn't have a gym, it does encourage travelers to get moving with a 1.4 mile walking loop through the Lindbergh Terminal. Green mile markers chart the path and record your progress over .1 mile. The walking path, designed in partnership with the American Heart Association's Start Walking program provides the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs before a flight or during a layover.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

Flying can cause stress what with the crowds, long security lines and regular flight delays. Get Zen by heading to the free yoga studio at the Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport. The space remains open 24 hours a day, and provides free yoga mats and a looping instructional video. Stretching and a few yoga poses can also loosen tight limbs between long flights or get your body ready to jam itself into the middle seat.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport

For a more vigorous and traditional workout during your travels, head to the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel, connected to the airport at the World Gateway Terminal. The WestinWORKOUT fitness studio here features the standard workout equipment of treadmills, stationary bikes and stair steppers to get your heart pumping. A small free of $15 gets you into the hotel. Left your workout clothes in your checked baggage? No worries. For $5, you can rent New Balance workout gear.

Chicago O'Hare International Airport

Similar to the gym in Detroit, you can work out in the windy city by heading to the attached Hilton Chicago O'Hare Hotel in Terminal 2. Here, you'll find exercise equipment, weight equipment, free weights, an Olympic size pool, and a whirlpool all for a $20 day pass. And it's open late, until 10 p.m., so even travelers flying from different time zones can find time to work out.

Singapore Changi Airport

Traveling internationally? Several international airports feature state of the art fitness studies including the Singapore Changi Airport. This airport has fitness and spa services in each of its three terminals where you can workout on exercise equipment, lift weights, or book a massage. You can even just use the facilities to catch a quick shower to freshen up before or between flights.

Don't let your business or travel plans interfere with your workout. Book a connecting flight in one of these airports and keep your fitness routine on track.
